Filling Your Emptiness -- Your New Life
Chapter 6
You Must “Take It Personal”
The little church then began playing a hymn of invitation, inviting people to come forward to accept Jesus as their Savior. Standing, playing music, and singing for what seemed an eternity.
I stood there gripping the pew in front of me, struggling to understand the emotion I was experiencing. The speaker said God loved me so much he sacrificed his only Son to offer me the opportunity to be forgiven, excused, and become a heavenly part of God’s family!
Only one person loved me. I was not worthy of a Savior’s love and sacrifice. I could not live such a Christian life or be part of such a group. I was not worthy, and it was not altogether my fault!
I planned my escape to exit this aisle, turn right, sprint down that main aisle, and out that door to my car. I thought the message was too good to be true, especially for “someone like me”, while sad, torturous memories flooded my mind.
Startling and making my dilemma even worse, my wife left me there alone and walked down the aisle to the front of the church.
Now I struggled by myself, more alone than I had ever been in my entire life. Why had everyone forsaken me?
The music seemed to play on continually, but I felt I could wait long enough to escape. I knew I was not good enough to accept this invitation and gift. Just as soon as I thought that exact thought, the speaker again came to the microphone and seemingly stated directly to me, “Don’t let anything keep you from taking that first step. Jesus loves you!”
I walked to the end of the aisle. I looked to the right and the sanctuary exit, but I knew that direction provided no hope. I looked to the left, to the front of the church, where it seemed everyone was standing, smiling, waiting to welcome me into God’s family. There seemed to be hope awaiting me.
What then seemed like quite an eternity passed, until I turned left, went forward, and started my new forgiven life in Jesus Christ, once and for all breaking my cycle!
To be saved from your sin, you must do these things:
1. meaningfully ask forgiveness for your sins;
2. be willing to turn from your sins (repent/stop doing it);
3. believe that Jesus Christ—our Lord and Savior—died for your sins and rose again.
You can accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and personal Lord by praying and meaning the following prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. I trust and follow you as my Savior and the Lord and Master of my life. Guide my life and help me do your will and become the Christian you want me to be.
In Jesus’s name, amen.
