What is my Purpose?

Where did I come from, why and what is my purpose?

Where did I come from:

Just as God created the earth as a place for you to live and gain experience, He created you, and gave you a body of flesh and blood in the likeness of His glorified body.

In the Old Testament God said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness."

Genesis 1:26

Jacob declared that he had seen God "face to face".

Genesis 32:30

Moses also spoke with God "face to face, as a man speaks unto his friend".

Exodus 33:11

In the New Testament, when the resurrected Christ appeared to His Apostles, He told them, "Handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as ye see me have".

Luke 24:39

Why did God create me:

First, he didn't make us because he was lonely. Long before we were here, God already had "company" with his Son and the Holy Spirit, referred to in Genesis 1:26, "Let us make man in our own image."

Second, despite not needing us, God chose to create us anyway, out of his great love: "I have loved you with an everlasting love" (Jeremiah 31:3). Yes, God loved us before he even created us. It's impossible to get our heads around that idea, but it's true; that's what "everlasting" love means.

Third, God created us to fulfill his eternal plan.

God, in his infinite wisdom, chose to make us a part of his eternal plan.

God is love and because of that love and his wonderful creativity, he made us so we can enjoy all that he is and all that he's done.

For everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory.

Romans 11:36

You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for You have created all things, and for your glory they are and were created.

Revelation 4:11

Bring all who claim me as their God, for I have made them for My glory. It was I who created them.

Isaiah 43:7

What is my purpose:

God created us to glorify Him and to enjoy Him forever.

We were created by Him and for Him. He did not need us because He was lonely or wanted someone to talk to. God is perfect and complete and has always been that way. We belong completely to Him. Because of that, we are to glorify Him in everything that we do.

And whatever you do, in word and action, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory (honor and respect) of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31

How do we do that (glorify God)?

We love Him, obey Him, believe in Jesus Christ, trust in Jesus, receiving the free gift of salvation Jesus offers us and tell others . . . only then will we give glory to God, and only then we will be able to enjoy Him forever, for all eternity!

For we are God's creation. He has created us new in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us.

Ephesians 2:10

Perhaps the most important part we play in God's eternal plan is to point people to eternal life with God—through his Son Jesus Christ.

The Bible calls this our "ministry of reconciliation"; telling others about salvation through Jesus Christ.

And all things are of God, who reconciled (restored friendly relationship) us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and did give to us the ministration (duty) of the reconciliation of others (restoring that relationship with others), … and having put in us the word of the reconciliation, in behalf of Christ, then, we are His ambassadors (chosen representatives), as if God were calling through us, in behalf of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19
